Privacy policy

What Elakka collects when you use elakka.in, the Elakka app for Android and iPhone, or the free WhatsApp price messages, and what we do with it.

The short version

You don't need an account. If you log in, we keep only your phone number and your WhatsApp name, never an email address or password.
We only keep what we need to send you prices: a random id for the app, a push token, and your choices.
We don't sell your data, share it for advertising, or track you across other apps and websites.

The Elakka app

When the app starts, it sends our server:

a random id made on your phone when the app is installed (not linked to your name, phone number or Apple/Google account);
the push token from Apple or Google, if you allow notifications;
your language and which notifications you turned on;
whether notifications are allowed, the app version, the phone's operating system version and model.

We use this only to send the price notifications you asked for and to fix problems with particular phones or versions. When an ad is shown or tapped in the app, we count it against the same random id so we can report numbers to the advertiser; advertisers never get the id or anything else about you.

The app doesn't use your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone, and it has no third-party analytics or ad trackers.

Your account (if you log in)

Logging in is optional. You log in by sending a code from your WhatsApp to our sign-in number, run for us by AuthAction. From that message we learn your phone number and the name on your WhatsApp profile, and we keep them with your account, along with your language and the devices you are logged in on (such as "Chrome on Android") and when each was last used.

We use this only to keep you logged in and to keep the farm records you choose to save: one line for each lot of cardamom: the day you picked it and its green weight, its dry weight, and the date and price you sold it for, with a note if you add one. Only you can see them; we compare your sales with public auction prices to show you how they did, and we do not share or sell them. You can delete any record, log out of any device, and delete your account and everything saved in it from your Dashboard at any time.

WhatsApp messages

If you send START to our WhatsApp number, or leave your number on the waiting list, we keep your phone number, language, when you joined or stopped, the messages you send us and whether our messages were delivered. We use it only to send the price messages. Send STOP at any time and we stop messaging you.

The website

elakka.in uses no advertising or analytics cookies. It remembers your language choice, and our host keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and browser) for a short time to run the site and keep it secure.

Who handles the data for us

Vercel hosts the website and server, and our database provider stores the data above.
Expo, Apple (APNs) and Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) deliver the app notifications, using the push token.
Meta delivers the WhatsApp messages, using your phone number.
AuthAction receives the WhatsApp message you send to log in and tells us the number it came from.

How long we keep it, and your choices

We keep app and WhatsApp details while you use them. You can turn notifications off in the app's Settings or your phone's settings, uninstall the app, or send STOP on WhatsApp. To have your details deleted, or to ask what we hold about you, email charnzet@gmail.com.

Elakka is meant for farmers and traders and is not directed at children under 13.
